Sarah Ralston
What is in My Bag
bio Profile
Sarah Ralston is notoriously known as having the most insatiable sweet tooth (ever), and according to her coworkers, has dog-like hearing when the word "cake" is mentioned, even at a whisper.
Sarah graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Marketing. Upon graduation, Sarah pursued her love of baking and all things sugary at the New England Culinary Institute in Burlington, Vermont. It was during a culinary internship in Singapore that Sarah first became enamored by the vibrant diversity of the food and cultures of Asia. In subsequent years, Sarah visited the continent more extensively and began photographing the local cultures, people and everyday life. Her fondest travel memories are of the many occasions she spent photographing people, and especially the friendly exchanges with the notoriously shy women of the third world.
After returning from southeast Asia, Sarah studied graphic design and photography at Lakeland Community College, where KP Photo digital artist, James Popovic, was a Photoshop instructor. James asked Sarah to freelance at KP Photo, and in 2003, she was hired as a full-time digital artist. Sarah cites her background in good food and cooking as a complement to her retouching approach, understanding how food textures, composition and lighting are most appealing to the eye.
Q&A With Sarah Ralston
What do you do during your “5 to 9” (after work)?
Crossfit is my addiction most weekdays after work; I also have a class once a week with my Buddhist Group. Napping is also a top weekend priority.
What is your quirkiest trait?
I eat food after the expiration date. I like to see how long I can go before it truly goes bad, and I swear it keeps my immune system on full alert, which is helpful for international travels and eating "mystery food".
What inspires you?
Traveling and taking photos (usually to Buddhist countries in Asia) inspires me creatively; my (Tibetan Buddhist) teacher Gelek Rimpoche inspires me in my Buddhist practice.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Chocolate covered espresso beans and Ghirardelli 72% Dark chocolate.
What would be your superhero power?
To be able to eat whatever I wanted and not gain weight.
Worst fashion choice?
I am a child of the 80’s so there were so many bad fashion choices.
I'm Really Proud Of
My Crossfit stats. Watch out. I qualified for the Crossfit Games in my Masters age group in 2014.
